Mail us your dirt. We'll tell you what's in it and what's missing.
We test your soil and email you a plain-English report: what's in it, what's missing, and what to do about it. Your report arrives about 2–3 weeks after your soil does.
Why test your soil?
Healthy plants start with healthy soil. A test tells you what's going on underground, so you stop guessing.
Hungry soil
Is your soil missing plant food like nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium? We tell you what to add, and how much.
Too sour or too sweet
Soil that's too acidic or too alkaline (pH) locks up nutrients even when they're there.
Root-eating worms
Tiny worms you can't see (nematodes) chew roots and stunt plants. Many gardeners never know they're there.
Root rot germs
Some soil germs rot roots and make plants wilt, even when you water.
Manure germs
Raw manure and some compost can carry germs like E. coli that you don't want on food you eat.
Metals
Old paint, roads and buildings can leave lead and other metals in soil where you grow food.

Questions
How much does a soil test cost?
Backyard garden tests are $25 flat, with the report and our suggestions included and no add-ons. Farm and acreage testing is priced by quote, based on your acres and crops. You don't pay anything to register.
Is soil testing open now?
Not yet. Register now and we'll email and text you when it's time to complete your registration and send in your soil sample.
What will my report tell me?
What's in your soil and what's missing: plant food like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, whether your soil is too sour or too sweet (pH), and signs of problems like root-eating worms, root rot, manure germs and metals such as lead. Then we tell you what to add or change.
How long does it take?
About 2–3 weeks after your soil arrives, we email your report.
How do I send my soil?
When testing opens, we'll tell you where to mail it. You'll mix soil from a few spots, put about two cups in a zip-top bag, write your account number on the bag, and mail it.
Do you test farms and acreage?
Yes, by quote. Choose the Farm / Acreage tab, tell us your acres, crops and crop rotation, and we'll contact you with a quote and a sampling plan for your fields.
Who can register?
Anyone with a US mailing address. Soil sent from outside the United States needs a special government permit, so we can't accept international samples.
Why do you need my phone number?
So we can text you when testing opens (only if you say yes) and reach you about your sample. We confirm mobile numbers with a one-time code. We never sell your information.
